R-Pharm Germany to be liquidated following failed investor search

R-Pharm Germany, the German subsidiary of the Russian pharmaceutical group R-Pharm, is being liquidated following a failed search for investors. The company, based in Illertissen, filed for insolvency in mid-March 2026. Insolvency administrator Markus Fröhlich stated that the two remaining potential buyers were unable to provide proof of secured financing.

The insolvency was driven by EU sanctions imposed due to the war in Ukraine and subsequent Russian countermeasures. The closure will result in the loss of approximately 280 jobs. A social plan has been negotiated with the works council, and between 50 and 60 employees will be retained on a temporary basis to manage the liquidation process.

The Illertissen site has a long industrial history dating back to 1860. Over the decades, the facility was owned by Heinrich Mack and later by Pfizer before being acquired by R-Pharm in 2014.
