R U OK? promotes mental health awareness and multilingual resources
The mental health organization R U OK? is promoting its upcoming R U OK? Day on 10 September, encouraging Australians to check in on those around them. Research from the organization indicates that while 25% of people may hesitate to ask if someone is okay, 88% of those who are asked report feeling grateful, cared for, and supported.
To increase accessibility within Australia’s culturally diverse populations, the organization has developed free Hindi-language resources. Community Ambassador Devendra Sapkota noted that providing information in a person’s native language helps break down barriers, making it easier to recognize signs of struggle and connect with support.
In addition to R U OK? Day, Queensland Mental Health Week will take place from 3 to 11 October. This year’s theme, ‘Building Community Through Connection,’ focuses on using relationships to support positive wellbeing and reduce isolation.
