Rabbit farming expands in Vietnam through closed-loop models

Rabbit farming in Vietnam is seeing growth through the development of closed-loop value chains. While the species grows quickly and is relatively easy to raise, farmers require more consistent support regarding disease prevention, feed, and market access to stabilize the industry.

In the Hai Duong and Hai Phong regions, individual farmers are transitioning from traditional livestock to specialized rabbit production. One notable example is Nguyen Van Cam, who established the Dai Duong farm. After starting with small numbers in 2012, his operation has grown to include 5,500 rabbits, providing approximately 4,000 meat rabbits and hundreds of breeding rabbits per litter to the market. His farm operates on a closed-loop model, generating monthly revenues in the hundreds of millions of VND.

Currently, about 20 farming households in the former Hai Duong area are linked through a collaborative network. These households cooperate on providing breeding stock, consumption, and standardized feed to ensure stability in the local market.
