Rabi ul Awwal moon sighting expected in Pakistan

Rabi ul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, is observed globally by Muslims to commemorate significant historical events, most notably the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Observances often include lighting up streets and organizing Milad celebrations.

In Pakistan, astronomical forecasts from the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) suggest that the Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH moon is unlikely to be sighted on Thursday evening. Due to the moon being approximately 20 hours and 53 minutes old at sunset on August 13, visibility conditions may be insufficient for a confirmed sighting.

Calculations indicate the moon may become visible on August 14, which would place the first day of the month on Saturday, August 15. The official start date remains subject to the decision of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will assess verified observations and testimonies from across the country.
