Rabies vaccination urged for pets in Argentina and Spain

In Argentina, the recent confirmation of a rabies case in a cat from Pilar prompted health officials to reiterate the importance of mandatory annual vaccination for dogs and cats. Veterinarians stress that vaccinating pets protects both animal and human health and helps maintain a barrier against the deadly virus.

In Spain, local authorities have launched free rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats, setting up vaccination points in neighbourhood centres, schools and squares. The programmes aim to achieve high coverage and herd immunity, offering the shots at no cost and sometimes adding deworming or sterilisation services to encourage broader participation.
