Kwankwaso joins Peter Obi for 2027 election; Kebbi Governor changes running mate
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has detailed his decision to form an alliance with Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election. Kwankwaso stated that the partnership is driven by the need for national interest, political equity, and democratic change, specifically aiming to allow the South to retain the presidency for another term.
Kwankwaso emphasized that an NDC administration would prioritize competence over political connections, intending to appoint technocrats and experienced professionals to key government roles. He expressed confidence in his working relationship with Obi, noting that his previous experience as a governor and minister has prepared him to serve effectively without being sidelined.
In separate political developments, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has replaced his Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, with former Finance Commissioner Alhaji Ibrahim Augie as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election. The change was reportedly made based on professional legal advice regarding eligibility, though the governor maintained that the transition was consensual and cordial. Additionally, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has endorsed Governor Idris for re-election, citing his impactful developmental projects.
