Rabobank to support physical passkeys for payment orders

Rabobank has announced in its new general terms and conditions for private customers, effective November 1, that it will support physical passkeys for executing payment orders. This method, which may include devices such as USB security keys, will allow users to sign transactions via Rabo Online Banking in a browser by using a registered physical passkey alongside a QR code scan via the Rabo App.

The bank noted that while the method is being introduced, it has not yet been rolled out to all customers. It also clarified that registered passkeys cannot be smartphones. This move follows similar security transitions in the Dutch banking sector, such as ABN Amro’s plan to replace its e.dentifier with USB security keys.
