Racalmuto awards honorary citizenship to Salvatore Ferlita

The town of Racalmuto is conferring honorary citizenship upon Salvatore Ferlita, a prominent literary critic and writer, during a ceremony held on October 16. The honor recognizes Ferlita’s extensive academic and literary contributions, particularly his dedicated research into the work of Leonardo Sciascia.

Ferlita, who has contributed to publications such as ‘Segno’ and the Sicilian pages of ‘La Repubblica’, has been noted for reviving the legacies of various forgotten writers. During the event, which includes musical performances and speeches by local officials, Ferlita expressed that the recognition reinforces his connection to the community and his commitment to documenting its cultural history.

The ceremony highlights Racalmuto’s significance as a cultural landmark that has maintained its unique identity against the homogenizing forces of centralism.
