Racalmuto fraud: 98-year-old woman robbed by fake officer

A 98-year-old pensioner in Racalmuto, Sicily, was targeted in a sophisticated scam involving impersonation. The fraud began with a phone call from a woman posing as the victim's actual caregiver, claiming an urgent need for funds to settle a 20,000 euro debt.

Following the call, a man arrived at the woman's home claiming to be a member of the Carabinieri. Believing the deception, the elderly woman handed over approximately 6,000 euros in cash, various gold jewelry items, and her credit card. The victim only realized she had been defrauded after the encounter. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.
