Various regional events celebrate older adults
Multiple communities across Latin America and the Caribbean held events to honor and support older adults, often in observance of International Day of Older Persons.
In Argentina, celebrations included a folklore festival in Río Grande, an artistic performance titled ‘Serenatas de Amor’ at the Sarmiento Theater, and the ‘Club de los Grandes’ festival in Rosario, which offered yoga, tai chi, and workshops to promote senior rights. In the Dominican Republic, the ‘Raíces de Sabiduría’ fashion show featured older models to promote positive aging, with proceeds benefiting the Junta de Desarrollo Gualey (JUDEGU). Additionally, the Red Rutas Alegres foundation held a musical and dance event at the Fuentes de Amor nursing home.
Other regional activities included a health and recreation day organized by Coopeguanacaste in Costa Rica for approximately 350 seniors, and a community gathering in Villa Mañihuales, Chile, focused on intergenerational dialogue and sharing local history.
