Rachel Brookes explains sudden Sky Sports F1 exit, denies Verstappen link

Rachel Brookes, a veteran Sky Sports Formula 1 reporter who had been with the broadcaster since 2012, left her role with immediate effect after 17 years. She told the Essential F1 podcast that the departure, while appearing abrupt, was planned and she had the opportunity to say goodbye to colleagues, teams and drivers.

Brookes addressed circulating speculation that her exit was tied to Max Verstappen, clarifying that the online abuse she received after interviewing the Dutch driver in 2025 had been resolved and had no bearing on her decision. She emphasized a “great relationship” with Verstappen and dismissed the rumors as unfounded.

She also highlighted the support she received from fellow drivers, notably a hug and encouraging words from Lewis Hamilton, and a silent embrace from Charles Leclerc at the Canadian Grand Prix. Although she has left Sky Sports, Brookes indicated she will remain involved in Formula 1, having recently hosted Aston Martin’s “The Lawn” event at the British Grand Prix.
