Author Rachel Cusk’s forthcoming novel, ‘Life of M’, has drawn significant speculation regarding its connection to actress Natalie Portman. Set in a city resembling Paris, the 192-page avant-garde work follows a writer who pens a fictionalized autobiography about an actress friend referred to as ‘M’.

Reviewers and readers have noted several parallels between the character ‘M’ and Portman, including the setting of the novel, the character’s ownership of two large rescue dogs, and a role in a ballet-themed film that bears a resemblance to Portman’s Oscar-winning performance in ‘Black Swan’. The narrative also includes elements that mirror Portman’s career and personal history, such as a strained relationship with a figure resembling a former partner.

While Cusk has not explicitly confirmed that the character is based on Portman, the actress has previously hosted Cusk for literary discussions. The novel is scheduled for release on August 25 via Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
