Rachel Goldberg-Polin represents terrorism victims at the United Nations
Rachel Goldberg-Polin, the mother of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, represented victims of terrorism at the United Nations during the annual International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism. In a recorded video message, she shared the personal account of her son, a dual American-Israeli citizen, who was kidnapped by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, invasion of southern Israel at the Nova Music Festival.
Goldberg-Polin stated that her son was executed in captivity and his remains were recovered by Israeli forces from a Gaza tunnel in September 2024. She used her platform to urge civilization to address the natural human tendency toward war and destruction, referencing a 1932 correspondence between Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud.
Reflecting on her grief, Goldberg-Polin described the experience of losing a child and the struggle to navigate life following the death of her son.
