Rachel Shelley reflects on filming Lagaan with Ashutosh Gowariker

Actress Rachel Shelley recently shared memories and behind-the-scenes photos from the production of the 2001 Oscar-nominated film ‘Lagaan’. Shelley praised director Ashutosh Gowariker, describing him as a “director extraordinaire” who maintained grace, humor, and composure despite working through an injury during the demanding shoot.

Shelley also noted that Gowariker presented her with a signed cricket bat on her final night of filming. The period sports drama, which starred Aamir Khan, follows Indian villagers in colonial India who play a cricket match against British officers to avoid oppressive taxes. The film received international acclaim and earned a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards.
