Rachida Dati requests reintegration into the judiciary ahead of corruption trial
Rachida Dati, the former French Minister of Justice and current mayor of Paris's 7th arrondissement, has requested to reintegrate into the judiciary. She has been offered a position as a first deputy within the central administration of the Ministry of Justice, specifically as a mission officer for the Delegation for European and International Affairs (DAEI). This administrative role means she will not serve in a courtroom or tribunal.
The reintegration is subject to the opinion of the High Council of the Judiciary (CSM) and follows the standard transparency procedure for magistrate appointments. This move comes just days before Dati is scheduled to stand trial in Paris from September 16 to 28, 2026.
Dati faces charges of passive corruption and passive influence peddling related to consulting services provided to a Renault-Nissan subsidiary during the tenure of Carlos Ghosn. Prosecutors allege she engaged in illegal lobbying at the European Parliament between 2009 and 2013, during which she reportedly received 900,000 euros. Dati denies the allegations, maintaining that her legal work was entirely legitimate. If convicted, she faces up to ten years in prison and five years of ineligibility for office.
