Racing Club honors legendary fan Tita Mattiussi
Racing Club held an emotional ceremony at the Presidente Perón Stadium, also known as the Cilindro de Avellaneda, to deposit the ashes of Elena Margarita ‘Tita’ Mattiussi in the club’s Hall of Honor. Mattiussi, a lifelong supporter known as the ‘Mother of the Academy,’ was joined by the remains of her parents, César and Ida, who served the club as a groundskeeper and laundress, respectively.
Born in 1919 at the club’s former grounds, Mattiussi passed away in 1999. Her deep connection to the institution was marked by her refusal to leave the stadium premises during its remodeling, leading the architect to design a residence for her family within the grounds. She was famously the only female supporter present at the first leg of the 1967 Intercontinental Cup final against Celtic in Glasgow.
Family members and club officials attended the event, which included the unveiling of a sculpture commemorating her legacy. Her nephew, Luis Dorigo, noted that the family had long sought a way to honor her wishes, as she had expressed a strong aversion to having her ashes scattered.
