Racing Club readies for Clausura debut and Copa Argentina under coach Vojvoda
Racing Club will open the 2026 Torneo Clausura on Friday, 24 July, hosting Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata at the Cilindro de Avellaneda. The match marks the first competitive outing for new head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda, whose contract runs until June 2027, and signals the start of a rebuilding phase after last season’s exits in the Apertura quarter‑finals and the Copa Sudamericana group stage.
The team also prepares for its Copa Argentina round of 16 tie against Defensa y Justicia, scheduled for the following Thursday at Quilmes stadium. Training this week proceeded without two regular starters: midfielder Facundo Cambeses missed practice after attending a league meeting on new competition rules, and forward Santiago Sosa sat out due to a foot injury sustained in a friendly. New arrivals – defender Alfonso Espino and midfielders Matías Kranevitter and Ulises Ortegoza – were introduced as part of the squad overhaul, with the coach emphasizing their role in rebuilding the side.
Racing’s objective is to restore competitiveness and stability under Vojvoda’s leadership as the club looks ahead to domestic and international challenges.
