Racing de Santander to reward Jorge Salinas after rejecting Atlético Madrid

Racing de Santander is set to improve the contract of left-back Jorge Salinas following his decision to remain with the club throughout the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old resisted significant interest from Atlético de Madrid, who sought to sign him to cover the left flank after the sale of Matteo Ruggeri.

Negotiations between the clubs stalled because Atlético was unwilling to meet the full €16 million release clause, offering instead €14 million plus several players. Racing's sporting director, Chema Aragón, maintained a firm stance on the clause to protect the player's value.

In recognition of his loyalty and his performance—which included seven assists during the promotion season—the club is expected to adjust Salinas's salary and potentially increase his release clause to further protect him from future interest. Major clubs including Manchester United and FC Barcelona have also been linked to the player. Salinas has started the current LaLiga season as a regular and is currently considered a candidate for the Spanish U-21 national team.
