Hugo Oliveira appointed head coach of RC Strasbourg

Portuguese manager Hugo Oliveira has been named the new head coach of RC Strasbourg, becoming the club's 53rd manager and its first ever Portuguese coach. He replaces Gary O'Neil, who left in June for Ipswich Town. Oliveira arrives from Famalicão, where he led the Portuguese side to a historic fifth‑place finish in the Primeira Liga. The club, owned by the BlueCo consortium, paid a compensation fee estimated between €2 million and €4 million to secure his release. His contract runs for at least three years, allowing him time to implement his preferred possession‑based, high‑pressing style. Oliveira, 47, spent seven years as a Premier League assistant working with Marco Silva at Fulham, Everton, Watford and Hull City, before taking the top job at Famalicão in December 2024. In the club's official statement, he said, “It’s an honour to be here in Strasbourg and to join such a beautiful project.” The appointment is seen as part of Strasbourg’s ambition to qualify for European competition under BlueCo’s multi‑club strategy.
