Radan Kanev praises Andrey Gyurov as a model for modern democratic presidency

Radan Kanev, chairman of Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria, stated that Andrey Gyurov has established an image of a modern democratic president for many Bulgarians. Kanev noted that Gyurov's reputation was built during his tenure as caretaker prime minister.

Kanev highlighted that Gyurov's candidacy is unique, representing a rare 'bottom-up' movement where voters actively encouraged him to run, a phenomenon not seen in over 20 years. He described the support for Gyurov as authentic, spanning from the center to the right, united by pro-European values and a commitment to constitutional democracy.

Furthermore, Kanev criticized the current political landscape, arguing that the government led by Rumen Radev lacks a necessary institutional corrective. He expressed concern that the concentration of power under Radev is dividing society and noted that the current political configuration, with Radev holding a large parliamentary majority while Illyana Yotova serves as president, fails to provide an effective check on executive power.
