Slovenia hit by severe storms and radar data anomalies

Severe storms, characterized by heavy rain and strong winds, have struck various parts of Slovenia, causing significant material damage. The municipality of Starše near Maribor was among the hardest hit, where emergency services responded to 17 different locations involving fallen trees, damaged roofs, and flooded basements.

In addition to the physical damage, a mysterious visual phenomenon appeared on weather radar maps, showing concentric circles over parts of Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia. The Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) clarified that these circles were not actual storm patterns or unusual atmospheric phenomena, but rather a technical error in radar data originating from the Fossalon radar in Italy. Experts explained that such artifacts often occur due to data processing errors or the 'bright band' effect, where melting snow creates enhanced radar reflections.

While the immediate storm activity has passed, meteorologists note that weather patterns are shifting. Following a period of heat, more precipitation is expected to arrive early next week.
