Radda MCH-FP Center vandalized and looted in Mirpur

The Radda MCH-FP Center, a healthcare facility serving low-income mothers and children in Mirpur for approximately 50 years, was recently vandalized and looted. Human rights organization Nari Paksha has condemned the incident, demanding that the government publicly disclose what actions are being taken. The organization reported that the facility was targeted by a group identified by a banner for ‘Somomona Byaboshayi Parishad Limited’ claiming ownership of the land. Nari Paksha expressed concern that the vandalism occurred in the presence of police, who allegedly failed to intervene effectively.

Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, spokesperson for the National Citizen Party (NCP) and former interim government advisor, criticized the subsequent cleanup efforts at the site, describing the situation as attempting to fix damage caused by the same actors responsible for the chaos. He noted that such land grabbing is a widespread issue and urged vigilance to prevent the facility from being repurposed through administrative or legal manipulation. He emphasized that the center should remain dedicated to its original healthcare purpose, specifically for maternal and child services, rather than being converted into commercial space.
