Radev supports Germany against hybrid attacks but warns of escalation risks
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has expressed solidarity with Germany regarding hybrid attacks, specifically referencing a drone incident in Leipzig. Radev stated that Bulgaria stands firmly with its leading economic and investment partner, Germany, in responding to such threats.
However, the Prime Minister raised concerns regarding the potential for escalation. He questioned whether providing long-range weapons to Ukraine—allowing strikes thousands of kilometers deep into Russian territory using European-made equipment and intelligence—would be a ‘reckless action’.
Radev emphasized that while Bulgaria supports its allies, it must maintain a level of caution to avoid becoming part of a broader escalation. He noted that while political positions are expressed during such incidents, concrete evidence from intelligence services is often provided later, and currently, no such specific data has been received by Bulgarian institutions regarding direct Russian responsibility for the Leipzig incident.
