Radicals launch petition for free beach access in Livorno
Matteo Hallissey, president of +Europa and the Italian Radicals, has launched an online petition to ensure free and unobstructed access to the seashore in Livorno. The campaign targets the use of turnstiles at beach establishments, which Hallissey argues create barriers to a fundamental right of access to the shoreline.
Following similar initiatives in Sicily that led the regional government to order the removal of turnstiles, Hallissey is calling on the Municipality of Livorno and the Tuscany Region to take similar action. The campaign's specific demands include the removal of turnstiles, the installation of clear signage informing citizens and tourists of their right to free access, and an increase in the number of public entrances to the beach.
