Radido Otieno Peter builds 480-acre sugarcane enterprise in Siaya
Radido Otieno Peter, a former fisherman from Siaya County, has transitioned into a major sugarcane producer, managing a 480-acre enterprise in Ywaya. After leaving fishing in 2010, Peter began with just three-quarters of an acre of sugarcane.
Through reinvesting his harvests, he has grown his operation to deliver approximately 6,000 metric tonnes of cane annually. His business achieves an annual turnover exceeding Ksh30 million. Peter credits his success to a collaborative relationship between himself, West Kenya Sugar Company as the miller, and Equity Bank as the financier.
Titus Ondigo, Head of Agriculture at West Kenya Sugar Company, noted that Peter has evolved from a small-scale farmer into a vital stakeholder within the regional agricultural value chain.
