Radikale Anti Smartphone Front launches art project in Vienna
The “Radikale Anti Smartphone Front” (RASF) has launched a series of provocative art installations in central Vienna. Using black-and-white posters taped to street poles, the movement features slogans such as “Spritzer statt Smartphone” (Spritzer instead of smartphone) and “Leben statt Liken!” (Living instead of liking!).
Initiator Benno Flügel describes the initiative as an art project designed to raise awareness about the excessive use of smartphones and social networks. The group argues that constant digital presence displaces personal encounters, encourages self-promotion, and contributes to social division.
Following similar actions in London and Brussels, the RASF aims to encourage people to utilize “algorithm-free spaces” such as libraries, cinemas, museums, and bars. Flügel emphasizes the importance of real-world connections over social media followers, stating that a few true friends are more valuable than a large number of digital subscribers.
