Radio Enlace faces eviction and fine in Madrid's Hortaleza district
The Hortaleza district council in Madrid has issued a 1,000 euro fine and an immediate eviction order to the community radio station Radio Enlace. The order requires the station to vacate its premises on Matapozuelos Street and return the keys to the former Rubén Darío public school building.
The municipal board, led by David Pérez of the People's Party (PP), justified the sanctions following the expiration of the property's administrative concession on June 22. Radio Enlace maintains that they had requested a renewal or a public tender prior to the expiration and characterizes the sudden notification as a premeditated maneuver.
Opposition parties, including PSOE and Más Madrid, have denounced the move as an abuse of power and an attempt to stifle local associative networks. Supporters of the station have gathered over 6,500 signatures. Opposition members have called for the Mayor of Madrid to intervene and have announced plans to bring the issue to the district plenary session in September to seek dialogue and potential relocation.
