Radio Televisión Dominicana marks 74th anniversary amid sweeping modernization

Radio Televisión Dominicana (RTVD), the Dominican Republic’s public television network, celebrated its 74th anniversary on 1 August 2024. Founded on 1 August 1952 as the nation’s first TV channel, RTVD is undergoing its most extensive technological and programming overhaul under General Director Iván Ruiz, with support from President Luis Abinader’s government.

The revamp includes upgraded production facilities, the launch of the motion‑capture animated series “Trinitarios,” and the upcoming second season of the original drama “La Familia Espejo.” RTVD’s programs have earned national and international recognition, such as the children’s show “TopiTok,” which won two Soberano Awards, and “El Mangú de la Mañana,” nominated for several categories. The channel also serves as the official broadcaster for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, running in the country through 8 August, and continues to operate artistic schools for broadcasting talent.
