Radio Timișoara celebrates 70 years of Serbian and German broadcasts

Radio Timișoara recently held celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of its broadcasts in both Serbian and German, honoring the cultural heritage of minority communities in the Banat region.

To celebrate 70 years of Serbian-language programming, an event was held in Piața Libertății featuring live music from local bands and the Akademic troupe, alongside traditional Serbian cuisine prepared by women's associations from the Union of Serbs in Romania. The Serbian broadcasts originally began on November 4, 1956, with a 24-minute program.

Simultaneously, the station commemorated 70 years of German-language broadcasts with a Viennese waltz evening in Piața Sfântul Gheorghe. The event featured classical, folk, and modern waltz demonstrations by various dance ensembles, including the Democratic Forum of Germans in Timișoara, celebrating the long-standing cultural ties of the German community in Banat.
