Romania: Multiple high-profile legal and security incidents reported
Romania is facing several significant legal and security developments. In Constanța, DNA prosecutors conducted searches at Confort Urban, a company under the local council. The investigation is reportedly linked to a case involving two prosecutors, Gigi Valentin Ștefan and Teodor Niță, concerning alleged irregular contracts with UCG Construcții Ecologice SRL.
In the Nordis case, DIICOT prosecutors have re-imposed seizures on 184 properties and 14 plots of land in Mamaia, valued at over 12 million euros. This move follows 363 new criminal complaints alleging damages exceeding 58 million euros related to fraud and money laundering.
Additionally, the National Radiocommunications Society (RADIOCOM) is investigating a suspected ransomware attack detected on October 19. While the internal network and email services were affected, the company stated that client services remain operational. The National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) is assisting with the investigation.
In a separate major crackdown, DIICOT conducted 48 searches across several counties, including Iași and Ilfov, targeting businessman Florian Mihăiță. He is accused of leading an organized criminal group involved in tax evasion, embezzlement, and money laundering.
