Radljevo mine to begin new coal production in October

Dubravka Đedović Handanović, the Minister of Mining and Energy in a technical mandate, visited the Radljevo surface mine in the Kolubara Mining Basin. She announced that the first coal production from the new continuous system is expected in the second half of October.

A new rotary excavator is currently removing overburden but is scheduled to begin coal excavation on October 15. This is considered critical ahead of the upcoming heating season. The ministry expects the production of approximately 100,000 tons of coal in October, with plans for significant increases thereafter.

Additional infrastructure, including a new stacker operational since June and a second, larger excavator, has been implemented to strengthen the mining systems. The long-term goal for the Radljevo mine is to reach an annual coal production of seven million tons. The minister emphasized that these investments signal a commitment to increasing coal production to ensure the stability of EPS thermal power plants.
