Radon Todev commemoration held in Rila Mountains

Descendants and residents from the Razlog Valley, including towns such as Bansko, Razlog, Godlevo, and Bachevo, gathered in the Rila Mountains to commemorate the 123rd anniversary of the battle at Radonova Pusiya.

On September 22, 1903, during the Krastovden Uprising, the voivoda Radon Todev—a teacher and educator from Bansko—and his detachment took a stand against a significantly larger and better-armed Ottoman force. Their mission was to secure the safe retreat of the local population from burned villages toward free Bulgaria. Despite receiving no reinforcements, the group fought for hours to allow refugees to cross the mountains. Although Todev and his men perished, they successfully completed their mission.

The annual commemoration included members of the National Haidut Movement, who honored the fallen with ceremonial shots. Local officials, including the mayors of Bansko and Razlog, joined descendants of the fighters and various community representatives to pay respects to the historical event.
