Radoniq Lake hotel faces closure over environmental violations

The Ministry of Environment, Planning and Spatial Planning in Kosovo has ordered the closure of the ‘Liqeni i Dukagjinit’ hotel and restaurant located in the protected zone of Radoniq Lake. Acting Minister Fitore Pacolli stated that the business operated in violation of environmental legislation and the Law on Waters, potentially risking the safety and quality of drinking water. The Ministry has called for a full investigation into the circumstances and the potential involvement of former officials.

KRU Gjakova confirmed that an inspection was conducted on August 21, 2026, and a formal report has been issued. An official decision regarding the closure is expected to be delivered by August 24, 2026. The operator has been given a 10-day deadline to remove equipment from the property.

Management of the hotel and restaurant has denied the closure, claiming they have not received any official decision or documentation ordering the cessation of work. The manager stated that operations continue normally and expressed concern that the public announcements have negatively impacted customer numbers and the reputation of the 60 employees working at the establishment.
