Radoslav Rosenov wins European boxing gold in Sofia

Bulgarian boxer Radoslav Rosenov has secured the gold medal in the 60kg category at the European Boxing Championships held in Sofia. This victory earned him the title of September athlete of the month as voted by sports media.

During his tournament run, Rosenov achieved a significant quarterfinal victory against Russian boxer Vsevolod Shumkov with a 3:2 decision. This win served as a personal redemption for Rosenov, who had previously lost to Shumkov in the 2024 European final. Rosenov noted that the loss taught him the necessity of increased discipline and training.

Looking ahead, Rosenov stated his primary objectives are to secure a world title and obtain an Olympic quota for the 2028 Games. He emphasized the personal sacrifices required for his training, including time away from family in Germany. Another Bulgarian medalist, Rami Kiwan, secured a bronze medal and plans to compete in the 70kg category for future Olympic qualification.
