Radovljica authorities deactivate 250kg aerial bomb

The State Unit for Protection against Unexploded Ordnance (NUS) is conducting a deactivation and removal operation of a 250-kilogram aerial bomb found under a railway bridge in Globoko, near Radovljica. The bomb was discovered during maintenance work on a tributary of the Sava River.

The intervention is scheduled to take place between 09:00 and 13:00. To ensure safety, authorities have implemented several measures, including the closure of road and rail traffic in the area, as well as the closure of airspace and the Lesce airport. Residents in the vicinity are advised to shelter indoors.

To mitigate the impact of a potential explosion, the bomb will be moved from the left bank of the Sava to the right bank into a prepared protective structure. This maneuver is intended to direct any shockwave into the bank and away from the bridge, reducing the impact radius from 1,200 meters to 400 meters. The bomb contains B composition filler and has two mechanical fuses, one of which is damaged, complicating the removal process.
