Radovljica authorities to deactivate 250kg aerial bomb

The State Unit for Protection against Unexploded Ordnance (NUS) is scheduled to deactivate and remove a 250-kilogram American-made aerial bomb in Globoko, within the Radovljica municipality, this Sunday morning. The ordnance was discovered by water management workers last Thursday under a railway bridge while they were working on a tributary of the Save River.

The intervention is expected to take place between 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM. To ensure safety, authorities will partially close the local airspace, including Lesce Airport, and suspend railway traffic during the operation.

Experts have noted that the bomb has two mechanical fuses; while they are not armed, the front fuse is damaged. To mitigate risks, the bomb will be transported to a specialized cage on the right bank of the Save River for deactivation. This measure is intended to control any potential shockwave and reduce the required evacuation radius from 1,200 meters to 400 meters. Residents are urged to follow all official instructions and avoid the area out of curiosity.
