Radu Jude’s film selected for Toronto and New York film festivals

Radu Jude’s latest feature film, ‘The Diary of a Chambermaid’ (Jurnalul unei cameriste), has been selected for both the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the New York Film Festival (NYFF). Following its world premiere at Cannes, the film will appear in the TIFF Wavelengths section and the NYFF Main Slate.

Produced primarily in France by SBS Productions with Romanian co-producer Avanpost, the film is a contemporary reinterpretation of Octave Mirbeau’s novel. It explores themes of migration, domestic labor, social inequality, and power dynamics between Romania and France. The story follows Gianina, a housekeeper for a wealthy family in Bordeaux, who remains separated from her daughter growing up in Romania.

The film stars Ana Dumitrașcu and will be released in Romanian cinemas starting November 20, distributed by Independența Film.
