RAE incorporates ten Honduran terms into new dictionary
The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) has officially included ten terms from Honduras in the 24th edition of the Dictionary of the Spanish Language (DLE). These additions, contributed by the Honduran Academy of Language, aim to reflect the linguistic diversity and evolution of the Spanish language.
The new entries include:
• Motagüense: A person related to the Club Deportivo Motagua. • Nenequear: To pamper or spoil someone excessively. • Canechar: To catch crabs, typically by hand. • Gurgurutear: To respond with vehement disagreement. • Picsín: A small amount or a brief moment. • Pijineo: A party or fun activity. • Pusungo: Coffee adulterated with toasted corn or rice. • Rielazo: A strong blow or impact. • Trameya: An important or powerful person. • Vive: A term used for living without working or for youthful enjoyment.
The 24th edition of the DLE features over 6,000 new entries, bringing the total to nearly 100,000 articles. This edition is the first designed as a native digital work, though a printed version will also be available.
