Rafał Brzoska targets YouTube scammers using fake celebrity death reports
InPost CEO Rafał Brzoska has raised alarms regarding fraudulent YouTube accounts that use the likenesses of famous individuals to spread fabricated and often drastic stories. Brzoska reported that a specific account used fake narratives to claim the deaths of himself, his wife Omenaa Mensah, and the wife of Karol Nawrocki.
Brzoska stated that over 20 GB of false content had been secured and that the profile in question was a ‘YouTube partner,’ suggesting the creators could be identified. He called for investigations by the prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Justice.
Polish Digital Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski addressed the issue, noting that the passive stance of digital platforms imposes costs on police and prosecution services. He confirmed meetings with officials to design regulations that would compel Big Tech companies to provide necessary information to law enforcement to combat criminal fraud.
