Rafa Monge promotes agrotourism at Sanlúcar’s historic navazo

Rafa Monge, through his brand Cultivo Desterrado, hosted an evening of agrotourism at the traditional navazo in Bonanza, on the banks of the Guadalquivir near Doñana National Park. About twenty participants experienced the saline‑water cultivation method that mixes river water with Atlantic tides, a technique that has fallen out of use.

Monge aims to revive the navazo, turning its produce into gourmet ingredients. His farm supplies potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, herbs, leafy greens and edible flowers to exclusive restaurants across Spain and even to establishments in Paris. He also uses the event to demonstrate the high salinity of the area, which impacts groundwater and the surrounding agricultural lands.

Historically the navazo extended from Sanlúcar to Trebujena and existed in nearby towns such as Chipiona, Rota and El Puerto, relying on natural dune systems that bring water to the surface without irrigation.
