Rafał Trzaskowski responds to failed Warsaw recall referendum

Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has addressed the failure of a recent attempt to hold a referendum to recall him from office. The initiative failed to gather sufficient support, with approximately 111,000 signatures collected against a required threshold of 132,000.

Trzaskowski stated that the lack of support for the referendum indicates that a majority of Warsaw residents still trust his leadership and wish for him to complete his current term. He dismissed criticisms regarding his management of the city and his focus on national politics, asserting that he remains committed to his duties for the next two and a half years.

In comparing his political resilience to professional athletes like Robert Lewandowski and Iga Świątek, Trzaskowski noted that politicians, much like athletes, are often judged by their most recent performance. He described himself as a “long-distance runner” in politics, emphasizing his intent to continue his work despite opposition.
