Architect Rafael Guillermo Acevedo Pedroza, running under the Alianza Social Independiente (ASI) banner, won the atypical mayoral election in Tunja on 26 July 2026. He received 10,758 votes, representing 24.77 % of the valid ballots, and defeated Yamir Oswaldo López Peña (9,217 votes) and Sandra Milena Estupiñán Orjuela (7,730 votes). The election was called after the previous mayor, Mikhail Krasnov, was removed following a court ruling that declared his 2023 election void due to a conflict‑of‑interest contract.

The Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil reported a turnout of about 30 % of the 142,847 registered voters, with 41,020 valid votes. Security was provided by more than 800 police and army personnel, a dry‑law period was imposed, and biometric authentication was used at three polling stations. The vote count was completed with 100 % of the 362 mesas reported, and the electoral authority is expected to issue the official credential for Acevedo shortly.
