Rafael Correa faces reactivated complaint and Interpol red notice request

Xavier Herrería has announced the reactivation of a complaint against former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, requesting that an Interpol red notice be issued against him. Herrería stated that he attempted to pursue similar legal actions approximately 15 years ago but claimed he did not receive support at that time due to the government's influence over state institutions.

Rafael Correa has faced several significant judicial processes in Ecuador, including the 'Sobornos 2012-2016' case involving alleged irregular contributions from state contractors. In April 2020, Correa and several others, including former Vice President Jorge Glas, were sentenced to eight years in prison.

Regarding international cooperation, Interpol has previously rejected requests for a red notice against Correa, citing concerns regarding the neutrality and potential political motivations behind the legal proceedings.
