Rafael Correa warns of global civilizational retreat

Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa has warned of a “civilizational retreat” and a “new world order ruled by barbarism,” driven by the rise of conservative movements and “technofascism” on social networks. During a visit to Mexico, Correa attributed this global shift to the influence of the Donald Trump administration.

Regarding Latin America, Correa argued that while conservative governments have gained ground in countries like Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, the region remains in dispute. He noted that two of the three largest economies, Brazil and Mexico, remain under progressive leadership. He specifically highlighted the administration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Correa also addressed political instability in Ecuador, alleging massive electoral fraud and criticizing the disregard for institutionalism and multilateralism. Additionally, he claimed there are coordinated efforts to link him to drug trafficking, comparing the situation to legal warfare used against other regional leaders.
