Rafael Devers faces boos during first Fenway Park appearance as Giant

Rafael Devers faced significant booing from Boston Red Sox fans during his first appearance at Fenway Park since being traded to the San Francisco Giants in June 2025. The former star, who spent nine years with the franchise and helped secure the 2018 World Series title, returned to Boston as a member of the Giants in August 2026.

The mixed reaction from the crowd sparked debate among supporters. While some fans expressed disappointment over the treatment of a player who achieved three All-Star selections and two Silver Slugger awards with the team, others defended the decision to boo following a strained departure from the organization. The friction reportedly stemmed from management decisions regarding his position on the field.

Despite his departure, Devers' influence remains within the Red Sox clubhouse. Current player Ceddanne Rafaela noted that Devers was a significant mentor, stating, “He means a lot to me. The things I’ve learned from him as a player... I’m really grateful.”
