Rafael Márquez assumes Mexico national team coaching role
At the ‘México Siglo XXI’ forum held at the Auditorio Nacional, former Mexico national team coach Javier Aguirre expressed his full support for Rafael Márquez as the new head coach of the Mexican national team. Aguirre, who previously worked with Márquez as an assistant, praised Márquez’s maturity and character.
Márquez discussed his transition from coaching Barcelona B to joining the Mexican national team project, noting that it was impossible to decline the invitation from Aguirre and the Mexican Football Federation. He emphasized that under his leadership, every match will be treated with importance, rejecting the term ‘molero’ (insignificant) for international fixtures.
During the event, Márquez also addressed a past investigation by the U.S. Treasury Department involving allegations of being a front for a financial operator. He described the experience as a ‘very low blow’ caused by ignorance of the situation.
