Rafael Márquez observes Liga MX talent at Cruz Azul vs. América

New Mexico national team head coach Rafael Márquez and assistant Andrés Guardado attended the 'Clásico Joven' match between Cruz Azul and América at Estadio Banorte to observe domestic talent. This marks Márquez's first official match attendance since assuming his technical leadership role.

The coaching staff utilized private security to monitor the game from a VIP box, focusing on Mexican players who may be considered for upcoming call-ups. Notable players in action included Erik Lira for Cruz Azul and Israel Reyes for América. Other players under observation include Carlos Rodríguez, Jesús Orozco Chiquete, Erick Sánchez, Isaías Violante, and Ramón Juárez.

Márquez intends to select at least two players from each club for the upcoming friendly series during the FIFA international window, beginning with a match against Colombia in Baltimore on September 26.
