Rafael Márquez to debut as Mexico coach in friendly vs Colombia

Former player Rafael Márquez, 47, has been appointed head coach of the Mexico men’s national football team, succeeding Javier "El Vasco" Aguirre after the 2026 World Cup. His first match in charge will be a friendly against Colombia on 26 September, played at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, United States.

The friendly is the first of a three‑game U.S. tour that also includes matches against Peru on 29 September in Harrison, New Jersey, and Chile on 6 October in Los Angeles. Mexico’s next official competition under Márquez will be a Concacaf Nations League home game in November, with the opponent and venue to be confirmed after the September‑October international window.
