Rafael Prudente Leads MDB in Brazil's Distrito Federal Ahead of 2026 Elections
The national executive of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) has established a Special Commission to direct the party’s strategy in the Federal District. Federal Deputy Rafael Prudente was appointed to coordinate the commission and to head discussions on alliances, coalition choices and candidate positioning for the 2026 elections.
Prudente will collaborate with MDB national president Baleia Rossi and the regional leadership, effectively becoming the main architect of the party’s agenda in the district. While preparing to run for re‑election to the Chamber of Deputies, some party allies have mentioned the possibility of a Senate candidacy, though that option lacks broad internal support.
The restructuring places Prudente at the centre of MDB’s political negotiations in the Distrito Federal as the party finalises its major‑and‑proportional candidate slates for the upcoming election cycle.
