Rafaelle Carrier wins silver at UCI Mountain Bike World Cup

Quebec cyclist Rafaelle Carrier concluded her first year in the under-23 category with strong performances at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Lake Placid, USA.

Carrier earned a silver medal in the short track event despite facing illness during the week of the competition. Competing in rainy and slippery conditions, she finished with a time of 21 minutes and 16 seconds, just one second behind winner Bethany-Ann Jackson of Great Britain. Makena Kellerman of the United States took third place.

In the Olympic cross-country event held on Saturday, the 19-year-old finished in fourth place. The race was won by Switzerland’s Fiona Schibler. Carrier remained in contention for a podium finish until a fall in the final lap slowed her progress. These results secured her a top-5 position in the overall standings for both disciplines.
